Inquiry question

What were Catherine’s learning needs? What was her inquiry question?

My learning needs arose from conversations I have with teachers, principals, or colleagues in which we need to address some challenging issues. I sometimes emerge from such meetings asking myself “Why did that go wrong? What could I have done better?” This was certainly the case in my conversation with Jack, which presented a problem of practice that highlighted my learning needs.

So my inquiry question became:
‘In the learning interactions I have with others, how should I manage my part of the conversation to best support open communication and effective engagement?’

How does this inquiry question relate to your practice?

Describe a recent situation when a conversation or interaction didn’t achieve the outcome you were hoping for.

What was your aim in the interaction?

What was the actual outcome? How do you know? What evidence do you have?

What happened in the conversation? What did you say and do? What did the other participant(s) say and do? What were you thinking but not saying during the conversation?

Why do you think each of you acted as you did?
