Clip 2: Waiharara School needs
Geraldine:
So I felt that the PD that I was receiving at the time was not going to help me. It was actually … I felt that it was a barrier. I really felt that it was a barrier, because my need in the classroom, for these children in my class, they actually needed me to receive some PD in writing so that I could help them with their writing, and that’s where the weakness was. So I came back very frustrated, I’ve got to say, because there was a school that identified a need in reading comprehension, and so the whole cluster was involved in that. So I felt we were not asked. All the schools were not asked what they wanted, and I felt that it was actually done to us, not for us. That’s how I felt anyway.
Kathy:
Our feeling was that we needed someone to walk alongside us and see our particular school culture – understand the needs of our children, not just a ‘one size fits all’ kind of solution. Because it wouldn’t have been a solution for us, I don’t think.
Delwynne:
She says, “Look, Delwynne, we want a facilitator who’s going to come in, and walk in our shoes, and be with us in the classroom, and care about our kids as much as we do. And we’re not interested in this neutral person that sits outside of the square. We want you in there, boots and all, and with us." And that suited me just to the ground.
