Clip 5: Use of video
Delwynne:
All of us are products of our own experiences and interactions with other people, and they’re unique in every individual. And all those beliefs make us make … cause us to make assumptions about the reactions or responses of other people. And the video allowed us to critique our assumptions about what we believed other people were thinking and doing.
We wanted to dig deeper into the quality of questions that we were asking. We wanted to know about what kind of questions work better.
Nyree:
We used Peter Hughes’ model of ‘What do we notice? What do we understand? What adjustments would you make?’ And I think that took the personal aspect out of viewing those video footages of each other.
Delwynne:
But the powerful bit is when you work out with somebody else. So we went from single to pair. But the pairs are always about the same thing. We still had the same moral purpose of being in a place – you know, together – and talking about things. And then the pairs and the depth of that conversation supported you when the pairs took their video to the big group. And, yeah, it’s mutual support all the way through – it’s cooperative, cooperation and collaboration at its best.
